Artist: Radiohead
Album:
A Moon Shaped Pool
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

The "r" head folks continue to release interesting album music. There are no radio hits here but you get cool concepts and arrangements. The active bass parts help set each track apart.
Key Songs: "Burn The Witch", "Tinker Tailor...".
Artist: Mumford And Sons
Album:
Johannesburg
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Mumford's experiment away from mainstream is interesting. The five songs on this record lasts about twenty minutes. Each track contains a portion of lyrics that are not in English. The choruses are clearly "Mumford" as heard on their past releases..
Key Songs: "There Will Be Time", "Si Tu Veux".
Artist: White Lung
Album:
Paradise
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

If you release a CD containing ten tracks that sound similar to each other, then you essentially released on song. Perhaps producer Lars Stalfors should consider this?.
Key Songs: *none*.
Artist: Blake Shelton
Album:
If I'm Honest
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Shelton continues to select (and write) better songs. They also have better hooks. However, the average track on this release has simple verses and choruses that sound similar.
Key Songs: "Bet You Still Think About Me", "Go Ahead And Break My...", "Every Good...".
Artist: Mudcrutch
Album:
2
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

It has been decades since Mudcrutch 1 was released. You would think Tom Petty and company would have had saved some of their better stuff for this record. The best track, "Hungry No More" is the last cut on the album.
Key Songs: "Hungry No More".
Artist: Flume
Album:
Skin
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

You get some interesting themes and sound effects on this record. The better cuts tend to be those developed into an actual song.
Key Songs: "Say It", "Like Water".
Artist: Paul Simon
Album:
Stranger To Stranger
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Simon remarks in the liner notes that he began writing this album with a bout of writer's block. Apparently, that explains the poor songwriting on this recording.
Key Songs: *none*.

Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Album:
The Getaway
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Here's another good release by the Peppers. Some songs are really good and some are average. However, they are all built upon great rhythm tracks featuring big bass parts.
Key Songs: "Dark Necessities", Goodbye Angel", "Sick Love", "The Hunter".
Artist: Keith Urban
Album:
Ripcord
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Urban's mix of "urban" country and banjo picking sets him apart from the "bro" country folks. He wrote about half of the tunes on this record. Those tend to be the best tracks.
Key Songs: "Gone Tomorrow", "Sun Don't Let Me Down", "Break On Me".
Artist: Ariana Grande
Album:
Dangerous Woman
Year Released: 2016
Rating:

Everything about this album is good - except for the songs. Grande is a really good pop vocalist. You would think she has access to some of the best pop songwriters.
Key Songs: "Moonlight".
